  • Now I know this might be a bit late into the whole promo campaign, but I figured this would be a good way to keep discussion going, and also keep the news blogs from going off-topic too often. If there's any news that you'd like to discuss, feel free to post it here. Be sure to check whether or not the piece of news is already somewhere in the thread, so we don't accidentally spam the same video thrice :)

Alright, to kick this off, Ubisoft has released a new trailer, for the Darwin and Dickens pre-order bonus content:

Assassin's Creed Syndicate Pre-Order Bonus Darwin and Dickens Trailer US01:21

Assassin's Creed Syndicate Pre-Order Bonus Darwin and Dickens Trailer US

What are your thoughts? Personally, I'm at least excited to see that there will be actual motion-captured cutscenes. If the plot is good, this could make for some very good additional content, especially after Unity's subpar DLC (looking at you Chemical Revolution).

(Evie's excited "Yes" followed by Jacob's sceptic eyebrow raise was a really cute moment imo :P)

    • bland trailer, but considering it's a pre-order DLC I'm excited to see that they are giving us more to do. I hope Darwin is involved with the First Civ someho as that would be really dank!

    • Darwin probably did something important alongside the Assassins, as he is an ancestor of Vanessa.

I actually thought the trailer was pretty exciting, but maybe I was just distracted by Evie and Jacob being pretty in the cutscenes lol. And "dank"? Someone's taking on lingo from the subreddit :P

      Touloir wrote:

      Seems logical.

You know, I've read people complain that this DLC is content cut out of the main story because it's got motion-capture cutscenes and an actual plot, but if that were true, I don't see how Darwin and Dickens would appear in the main game. Like, the trailer clearly shows Evie and Jacob meeting Dickens and Darwin, so that'd be the starting point of an alliance - that's not the kind of stuff you'd want to use for DLC cause players that didn't pre-order would encounter Dickens and Darwin in the story later and be all like "wait what how do I know this guy again? why are we friends?"

So either Ubi has really screwed over the people who don't pre-order, or Darwin and Dickens only appear in the pre-order content and don't actually feature in the main storyline - which would be a bit weird, given they're so famous. That's what I'm thinking anyway.

    • the trailer wasn't that awesome like ACU trailers were, but it had me at "ghost" thingy and Evie's good appearance (does anybody else notice Jacob's face when Evie said 'yes'? haha). The connecetion with Vanessa is pretty intriguing though and I think a Piece of Eden is involved.

      I love Jacob's reaction to Evie's excitement :p

While it'd be nice to learn more about Vanessa, she's a minor character from Project Legacy, a side project from 2010-2011 (I think?), so I don't think it's very likely. It depends on how relevant Darwin is, frankly. If he's just there for the pre-order content, I doubt Vanessa will be mentioned.

    • Jacob's reaction to Evie's excitement was probably the best part of the trailer.

@Crook, Gotta have some Talking Sandwich lingo the Wiki!

    • Nothing really to note about the trailer other than we get to see Dickens' and Darwin's character models.

Personally though, I find it distasteful that Ubisoft have not refined their hair rendering software after all this time. Both of them look scraggy and awful, and here I was expecting that though they'd be bearded, the hair rendering would look closer to the neatness of a barber's trim. :S

I missed the Horizon trailer on London, whoops. But at least there's this cool thing :) IGN is doing a lot of coverage on Syndicate throughout September, apparently, so I guess that's something to watch out for.

EDIT: Jacob's "gasp" is kind of comical lol. I think Paul Amos went a little over the top there.

    • Cheers Crook! It truly does looknlike a different franchise, someone seeing this without the title might think this is a new franchise.

Jacob is an idiot! He should of jumped off the side of the train like driver, instead he runs in the opposite direction.

        Loading editor
    • I think running backwards, rather than jump off, is just for the coolness factor. Though the fact that that takes precedence over logic isn't a very good sign (reminds me of that stupid mission in Unity where Arno sets Les Halles aux Blés on fire, forgetting there are explosives inside).

Still, I think we should reserve judgment - Jacob is explicitly marketed as not very Assassin-like, and it's not like we haven't had giant setpieces before. Saying it "looks like an entirely different franchise" seems very hasty to me, especially since this is just four minutes of a game that is likely to be at least ten hours long, if it resembles previous AC games length-wise.

        Loading editor
    • I didn't say the whole game looks like a different franchise! I was just talking about this footage, or I would have said that when earlier missions were released.

        Loading editor
    • Don't forget good ol' Eddie was marketed as a pirate and a not so original character and turned out to be one of the best written and deepest in the series.

The difference here is that Jacob is already an Assassin, so that makes one less reason for haters to hate.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate Season Pass - Jack The Ripper EUROPE-001:23

Assassin's Creed Syndicate Season Pass - Jack The Ripper EUROPE-0

Looks like Jack the Ripper will be making an appearance in this singleplayer campaign set 20 years after the main storyline. At this point, I'm hoping Jacob is not Jack the Ripper - I feel like I'd have difficulty liking him and I'd find it more interesting if Jacob and Evie were to pursue the Ripper. Then again, the whole trailer might be trying to mislead us. I feel like the narrator could be Paul Amos, but it could also be someone else.

Importantly, I'm pretty sure we can see Evie in the trailer, dressed as a prostitute - this would mean Evie does not die in the main storyline, which is a relief at least. I didn't think this very likely anyways, but you never know with Ubisoft.

Finally, there's some other stuff in the Season Pass, including the Last Maharaja missions, which sound pretty interesting :) Might be a link with Henry Green there, or the Indian Brotherhood. Who knows. Jacob and Evie can also get some steampunk-inspired outfits, apparently - not really my vibe, but I expect others'll like them.

        Loading editor
    • Oooh, I was obsessed with the Ripper murders as a boy. There's little sense trying to solve a crime that was over 100 years old but I didn't know that at the time. Wonder how graphic Ubisoft will go with the murder sites. Remember when some fans suggested we actually play as Jack?

        Loading editor
    • They've said players will "join forces with Frederick Abberline", so my guess would be that Jacob and Evie are going to assist the inspector and potentially find the suspect, but it for some reason is covered up. Maybe Jack the Ripper was a rogue Assassin or something - the Brotherhood probably would like their existence to stay a secret. That's just me guessing :P

    • No kidding, it's the Black Dahlia subplot in LA Noire all over again. I wonder if they'll create somebody new to be the Ripper or if it will be William Gull.

She was found in her bed, throat slit, her right arm cut off, skinned, her kidneys as a pillow, her bowels lying between her legs... Her flesh was then placed on her nightstand. I played many gory games but knowing this actually happened... damn that's just nasty.

      Yooooo, that's twisted.

That's so sick, I'd be very surprised if it was Jacob now. I mean, he's supposed to be charming and likable. If he becomes Jack the Ripper, there's no way people could like him :s They might tone down the violence, but still.

    • More news! So PS4 has announced a fancy Assassin's Creed: Syndicate bundle (that comes with a free digital copy of Watch_Dogs for some reason). But, more importantly, there's a new trailer for the PS4 exclusive content, the Dreadful Crimes.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate The Dreadful Crimes Trailer PS4-001:18

Assassin's Creed Syndicate The Dreadful Crimes Trailer PS4-0

I keep expecting the cutscenes for side content to be simplistic like before - with Unity, quest givers would just stand there and say a few lines before you were off doing the mission. Syndicate, from what I've seen, has motion-captured cutscenes for at least some of these (like the Darwins and Dickens Conspiracy), which I find pretty cool. If there's unique cutscenes for Evie and Jacob, I'll be very impressed.

Anyways, I quite liked the Murder Mysteries in Unity; some were a bit simple, but they were fun anyways. It's a shame not everyone will get to play these. Hopefully they fixed the overlapping notifications at least :P

As for the characters, apparently the older guy is Penny Dreadful journalist Henry Raymond, while the kid is Artie, whose "I do find crime so delightfully entertaining, don't you?" line feels excessively British lol. I'm wondering whether he's got the same voice actor as Léon.

It says so on Olivier Garneau's page, Misphantom :P But yes, Darby McDevitt has confirmed that all the Watch_Dogs stuff is not canon in the AC Universe. I just hope it stays that way.

Anyways, achievements for Assassin's Creed: Syndicate have been posted online on trueachievements.com. The Cerevisaphile trophy looks cool though!

    • It doesnt matter to me if the sequences is short or long as long as the story is complete, interesting, and isn't full of crp like Unity's. Why have the sequences long if it just contains unnecessary events in the storyline? Why have the sequences short if it lacks detail?

        Loading editor
    • Sure hope we have 2 missions per sequence again!!!!

In all seriousness though, it doesn't matter to me how many sequences it has as long as the story has an equal amount of length and depth as AC2 and AC4 had.

        Loading editor
    • But seeing as we don't know how many missions or content are in each Sequence it still leaves me uneasy as of this time. My view could get better or worse when there is more info.

        Loading editor
    • That's a good sign considering Jeffrey wrote Brotherhood. It might be that he prefers to have less sequences but more memories in each one with his games, since Brotherhood had on average around 5-6 memories per sequence.

    • I don't think the amount of content really is up to just the writer, to be honest.

Nope. You can see what the five secret trophies are and none of them relate to the modern day. Well, except one, but that depends on your definition of modern day.

Eh, I don't mind so much. I mean, Versailles was pretty, but we were out of there so quick, it honestly didn't really matter. If Crawley is used to properly flesh out the twins' background, I won't care that it doesn't have the most impressive architecture.

I think it's pretty likely we'll see them as children, since that's kind of been a staple in the series. Then again, I might prefer just spending time with Evie and Jacob while they're in their late teens or something, to get to know them a bit better before they go off to save London. I hope there'll be some sidequests to do, or characters to meet, so they have some ties to Crawley before leaving it.

As for it being only a single year, I think that's been pretty much confirmed. There might be a small section at the beginning or end that takes place later, but I expect the bulk of the story to take place in 1868. I don't mind so much tbh, it might even make the story more cohesive.

Not sure if we can really call it a staple to be honest. The only protagonists whom we controled as children were Connor, Arno and Aveline. Not sure if Ezio really counts seeing as we barely control him as a newborn infant and then fastforward to him at age 17, which doesn't really count as a child.

As for the twins' backstory, I think we'll probably see play them as either children or teenagers, maybe even both. I also think their father's death will be shown, as he is confirmed to have died sometime in or before 1868.

Perhaps we'll play with the twins as children in Sequence 1 and teenagers in Sequence 2.

It might not all take place in Crawley, perhaps they travelled in their childhood to various places. Just because they were born there doesn't mean they stayed there all the way up to young adulthood.

So, don't know if you guys have heard of it yet, but apparently Jacob and Evie will interact with a trans male called Ned Wynert, who will give them quests and stuff. I'm totally on board with this, as long as him being transgender isn't Ned's sole defining character trait. I was honestly hoping there wouldn't be romantic interests for either Jacob or Evie at all :P But, I've seen some footage and there's already a "held gaze" between Evie and Henry, and Jacob prods her about "fancying the bloke", so I feel like something's being set up there.

As for transgender romances, I don't really see the problem - Ubisoft has never done explicit sex scenes, so at most you'd see like a kiss or something. Would that gross you out?

I'm wondering how Ned copes being transgender in the 19th century. There weren't things like testosterone injections or sex reassignment surgery, maybe not even binders.

I dunno about that, I don't think the medical advancements had gotten quite that far. Sex reassignment surgery was first tried in the mid-twentieth century, and I doubt testosterone injections were a thing in Victorian London either. I suppose a corset could be used as a substitute for the binders people use nowadays.

Oooh. Well I suppose Mary Read and Ned Wynert more or less have to resort to the same methods, aka clothing that hides their female figure, but for different reasons. Mary, the way she was depicted in AC4, appeared to be just cross-dressing for the freedom it gave her - she wasn't actually transgender. Ned cross-dresses because presenting as a man probably feels more accurate, or right to him. That'd be my guess anyways.

You don't necessarily have to like the same gender to be able to be transgender. Ned Wynert is, biologically, female, but identifies as male. However, he could very well be attracted to either men or women. His own gender identity isn't necessarily connected to his sexuality.

    • Of course it's for different reasons! Though It doesn't leave me wondering how Ned coped in the 19th century as people have cross dressed prior.

I do wonder, cause for Mary it just needed to be convincing enough, you know? If Ned could push it further than just wearing a corset plus a big coat to hide his chest, I think he probably would. Unlike Eric Cooper, he can't grow himself a beard and stuff.

    • Well, that apple is the one that they used to open the grand temple in AC3 - like Crook said - it's probably with William and the other assassins at this time. What, I'm wondering is the second apple - Altair's - that was left in the Maysaf's underground vault and what use it will play in the future.

    • Im guessing the shroud would be the one focused in the history storyline of ACS but maybe, HOPEFULLY, if the modern storyline's location is on Altair II, Im guessing we'll see the apple soon. I hope that there is better story in this game about the modern day where we are more active instead of having a passive experience minus the helix mission which seem to be coming back again. Thanks, it was the one that was destroyed in the DIA incident. The only one that needs to be accounted for is the third apple of eden. I think that the templars have that piece as well.

        Loading editor
    • A clash of the apples then. Aren't we gonna have any promotional clue about the modern stroy line?

        Loading editor
    • Well, there something happening wiht Juno in that she is hijacking those helix missions. The shroud is probably one of the reason why we have the twins. The second part is probably the Assassin's response to Ostoberg's message to the end of Rogue. The Assassin are telling the Templar, "Yeah, we know that we got our teeth kick in, but each time, we stood up and defeated you. As long as there is one (two) of us - we will be there to bring you down." The third part will be about project phoenix and templar trying to obtain the genetic informaiton about Sages and hunt those with Aita's DNA information. Afteralll, they have Have Standish's genetic information. Those dicks.

Speculation: We're either going to replay as a new fully modern protagonist or they are going to lift the veil of the "unseen" helix user that we were playing as in Unity. Otherwise, the choices are replaying the Hacker from AC4 or the newest Templar from Rogue. Which, I think would be interesting, if that is the case since if they are able to implant an assassin in the templar's ranks and destroy them from the inside like Templar did with Daniel Cross to the Assassins.

        Loading editor
    • Then we have Charlotte de la Cruz from the comics and the guy (I forgot the name) in the Ac movie being portrayed by Michael Fassbender. Probably, they're connected to the modern storyline. Charlotte was hunted by the Templars and I dont know about the other guy. I'm guessing this storyline is full of chases and probably redemption from the Assassins. And then theres the Juno problem.

        Loading editor
    • Callum Lynch.

That'll be the rub. How much connection there will be. A good intersection would for the games will be the Modern Protagonist starting to recruit this people to the assassins. Kinda of like, Ezio recruiting in Brotherhood, to rebuild the assassin's organization.

Charlotte de la Cruz will probably be part of the piece of eden that will be paralleling Evie's quest. Callum Lynch will probably paralleling Jacob's storyline of recruiting more to the assassin's cause. This is because he will learn from his ancestor how to rebuild the order because if I remember AC 2 Discovery - the spanish assassins were being hunt down by the Spanish Templars until Ezio helped them repel the Templar in that area.

Juno and the sage storyline - it will probably be our new animus glitch ala Clay's puzzle. Hence WWI and Helix missions.

Why would you assume that? This is a CGI trailer. The cutscenes from the Story Trailer came from the game itself, so you know that those are, at least, part of his character. Does Starrick suffer paranoia-induced visions of the Assassins coming for him? Maybe... But it could just as well be something they came up with for this trailer because it looks cool (or, in my opinion, weird).

Well, my assumption comes that they wanted to show another aspect of Starrick - instead of the over the top villain that we saw from in the story trailer. Usually, the CGI trailers are usually in the pre-credit opening, to show off that his paranoia-manic is causing him to act irrationally due to the actions of the assassins.

    • I hoping they are exploring that aspect in Starrick's character, because it seems to reflect the same type of paranoia that Sibrand dealt with. He was one of the most interesting and morally ambigious Templars from the first game IMO since he displayed a fear for death that none of the others did and simply tried to fulfill his duty to the Order. I'd love to see something like that explored more in-depth with Starrick.

Ubisoft has ignored that rumour expertly. If the question somehow got through to them, it was dodged, like in one of the recent Q&A's with Esco and Marc-Alexis Côté. From what I've seen of Sequence 3, the split is pretty even, but that's no guarantee for the rest of the game, and Ubisoft's unwillingness to properly answer this question is disconcerting.

        Loading editor
    • the crowd probably loves evie and Ubisoft remains silent about this so it porbably means its not split pretty even and its more on jacob

        Loading editor
    • It seem that from the implication that the story mission based on the interview, gameplay preview, and general comments from the PR, Community Leaders and Developers - is that Jacob will be more or less the focus. Evie will have several mission - but most likely - you'll be using Evie to do the sidequest mission, black box mission, and rift mission. Which is all optional. That's my understanding based on the interviews and comments from the developers.

        Loading editor
    • Evie is not "optional" (the very thought angers me lol - not that I'm angry at you, Dinale :p). She will, at the very least, have some missions in the main storyline, but I think it's pretty clear that Jacob will have more. Anything that is not main storyline can be played as either Evie or Jacob, depending on the player's choice.

Anyways, this is what I've seen from Sequence 3 so far, and I'm hoping the rest of the game goes along the same line, cause it's pretty much evenly split. It's possible there are more memories to Sequence 3, but these are the five I've seen:

      • Memory 1: Played as Jacob
      • Memory 2: Played as Jacob or Evie
      • Memory 3: Played as Jacob or Evie
      • Memory 4: Played as Jacob or Evie
      • Memory 5: Played as Evie
        Loading editor
    • Yes, Crook, I did mention that Evie will have several missions in the main storyline. I meant optional - in that you could complete those mission that are not character specific with either Jacob or Evie. And if there are a stronger focus with Jacob in the Main Storyline Mission than Evie - than most likely you have the option of having more gameplay with her by completing those non-specific character missions. Which are optional and could be completed as Jacob as well. So, we're in agreement with our thoughts XD.

        Loading editor
    • Oh, I know you could technically play all of the side content with Evie (which, to be honest, I'm probably going to do), but I wouldn't consider that "making up" for a diminished presence in the main story, as Ubisoft seems to think >.>

    • It's going to be really important for people to show how much they loved playing as Evie, and be really vocal about it, to prevent ubisoft from regressing and taking any backward steps. They tried something new and different with Connor in AC3 and the initial response was so overwhelming negative by the majority of players so ubisoft haven't gone down that path since. I'm kind of hoping that since all the games since AC4 have gathered statistics on player actions, it would be good if they could see how many people chose to play Evie over Jacob, and for how much of their time playing.

        Loading editor
    • That would a good approach for players to do - to let Ubisoft know how much players enjoy playing the protagonist regardless of gender. Did Connor really have that negative response from Players? I liked him especially when I was doing those homestead mission. I'm always tempted to react out to Noah Watts and ask if he could record some funny lines during those tension cutscenes. Kinda like we hear his thoughts is complex and soul binding and all that comes out is "Where is Charles Lee?!"

      Alas.

        Loading editor
    • He did have that negative response, yes. There was at first a sea of hate from a large portion of vocal people, mostly casual gamers who had played AC3 and either A) couldn't get over Ezio or B) didn't take the time to realise that much of Connor is hidden underneath the surface and therefore didn't care enough to properly understand his character. Plus the Homestead missions concealed much of his personality which many people didn't play.

It took a little while after AC3's release for his fans to come together and really show their voice, and I actually think that there were a lot more people who loved him as a character straight away but just didn't show it, me included. Places like tumblr, here on the wiki and the subreddit praised him massively and over time more people began to realise how brilliant of a character he really is, and that sea of hate was mostly drowned out. But the damage was done, and ubisoft haven't given a character like him since.

Arguably his story is one the greatest written, but the way it was told was problematic and disjointed and his character suffered as a result.

        Loading editor
    • I think his story suits a novel better than a game. That's probably why Forsaken is the best IMO.

        Loading editor
    • I agree with Arcemz. people hated connor for being so "un-Ezio" which sucks because connor is supposed to be a new character and people should really move on (no offense to Ezio fans). And now Ubisoft is making too many "ezio-like" characters (like Arno, Jacob and a very teeny-tiny bit of Edward) bec of this. I mean, psychologically speaking, Ezio had support during the misfortunes in his life (family and friends). Connor had none which probably turned his character like that (I'm guessing he was different as a kid). But that's only my speculation. We don't even have a bland/silent type of character anymore in the main installments. I dont know about Evie, but she's the closest character i could think of that is almost alike with Connor.

    • The lack of sufficient marketing for Evie is really annoying. I guess you could argue that Ubisoft is trying to promote the whole Rooks aspect of the game which is much more Jacob's focus than it is Evie's. She doesn't really seem that involved in it to be honest, so that could be one way to look at trailers like this. But then that raises the issue of why they isn't more material specifically focusing on her side of the story.

For once I'm actually hoping that the marketing of the game is going to be inaccurate and what we get on October 23rd will not be like this.

    • I want a romantic interest for Jacob. In my ideal world, it'd be a guy, but that's not happening for another 5 years at least, so I'll settle for a spunky lady.

    • Soundtrack preview on Amazon ! Scheduled for October 23rd (duh)

Uploaded "The Assassin Two-Step" and "Death Is Now A Welcome Guest" (the only two purchasable for now) on my channel.

The latter is actually a cover of Henry Purcell's Dido's Lament.

    • There's a lot of references to the Dido and Aenaes in the soundtrack. Hmmm.

      I'm sure it's Ned Wynert.

His inclusion makes me think your ideal world might come sooner than in five years.

    • Hmmm, AC Syndicate is actually looking pretty good now... Was quite disappointed when they actually revealed it but now I would be considering pre-ordering it if it wasn't for my paltry student budget. I'll see what reviews are like and probably get it for Christmas. Gonna have to avoid spoilers from here though!

    • So Syndicate videos are popping up on the internet, as are spoilers. While this is a "news" thread as such, please refrain from discussing material from the game itself for a few more days. Reviews and stuff are okay though, so long as they don't go into detail about the story.

    • I'm guessing, like always, we can only add info for the game after it's released this Friday? Just to make sure and to clarify, because people are already adding stuff.

Correct. Full-on spoilers in articles, I'd rather avoid, but adding era icons seems pretty harmless to me. Anything that goes too deep into story details can wait until Friday.

    • Im not buying it YET. God, I think my PC is going to blow with that game. It could barely handle Unity and I keep getting stuck while doing parkour, what else for Syndicate?

Not bad at all... Might have to live off plain pasta for a week so I can afford buying this game shortly after release (oh student budgets xD). I think I'll wait to hear impressions from you guys before I decide whether I'll get Syndicate now or if I can wait until Christmas though.

    • Crook, please don't let me see you start with a lower-case letter and then end with all-caps again.

Also, I read a review, but I'm still unsure as to whether I'll get the game. I'll need to see it in action.

Briefly summarizing would be a "satisfactory experience". We'll see how I think about it in a few months, but mostly I'm happy with what it is. I wish I'd gotten a bit more - more storyline, more sidemissions with Clara and Ned and Florence Nightingale, etc. Not more collectibles though :P

    • now that Im playing it on my cousin's playstation AND watching walkthroughs because my cousin is such a douchebag and wont let me play the game properly, i find the game MUCH BETTER than unity, the characters relationships and personality are excellent, london too big but has detailed environment, and great storyline, Im very satisfied thank you very much. I hated collectibles. I LOATHE COLLECTIBLES.

Won't spoil it, but the Helix glitches are essential to the present day storyline. ^^

Really? Oh my god, I knew I could hate collectibles more!

IS NO ONE GOING TO TALK ABOUT GALINA

        Loading editor
    • Well, a lot of the Helix glitches just give you chapters from Project Legacy, so there's not a lot of new material.

I was so happy to see Galina, she looked amazing :D

        Loading editor
    • I know right, I fricking love that 8 seconds of Galina's cameo with Shaun. (Is it 8 seconds? lol) Is it wrong for me to expect Charlotte de la Cruz?

    • Alright I'm gonna go ahead and type out my thoughts, and I won't refrain from mild spoilers. So I'll start off by saying the game is better than Unity. It uses the same gameplay system, including the awkward combat system that just feels outdated. But at least now it's playable and enjoyable. The rope launcher makes traversing this large open world, which is gorgeous, a lot less tedious. Landmarks are absolutely fantastic, and like Paris was in Unity, I think London is definitely the heigh point of the game. Conquering London borough by borough is a lot of fun, even though a lack of variation in these missions is a bit of a low point.

Characters are likeable and fun, and while the 'young and brash' type of protagonist has worn out its charm I enjoyed Jacob and Evie as protagonists, and Henry, Bell, Darwin and Dickens as side characters. Starrick was a great Grand Master, calmly menacing. The story was fun and reminded me of the Ezio days, but it was devoid of any real climax or epic conclusion. The end battle felt very dull and simple. Leaving out the shocking revelatory endings of the past games doesn't do the series any good, and it lacked any emotion like Black Flag managed to pull off in its ending.

After all the complaints about Unity's modern day moving nowhere, they moved the plot ahead somewhat but it's nowhere near what we had in the Desmond saga. Most of the modern day plot is told through audio files that can be obtained by collecting Helix fragments. I could not name a greater sin this game could pull off. Collectibles are the most boring filler that games can have, and forcing people to collect them to obtain the full story only makes it worse.

The Rift sequence was a very welcome addition, and I loved how they had kept it secret. It made me hungry for more. It was a great piece of history to explore, and I hope the other forthcoming games add in more surprises like this.

I really enjoyed the game overall, but I think that's mostly because the games did a lot of things better than its disappointing predecessor. However, I think if this game came after, say, Assassin's Creed II I would be quite let down. Initially I would have rated this my third favourite, but I think I would now place it fourth or fifth. AC2, AC4, ACB, AC1, ACS, ACRV, ACU, ACRG, AC3 would be the order I would place them in right now.

    • I also did like the characters especially Crawford Starrick! Though the story was to straight forward and simple for me. There were no real twists that grabbed me, and would have liked to have see Crawford interact with the other antagonist more because the lack of Crawford which connects all main targets made each sequence feel disjointed, in particular Sequence 8. There was no "Round Table" type conspiracy talks which made the Templars feel like one group. AC2 is an example of when it's done well.

I also found it strange that although most of the targets felt that they were actually doing good, they still seemed very obnoxious. I also got excited when seeing "Templar conspiracy" thinking that there would be a video, but was left disappointed to find out there is only written text.
