"Amun-Ra protect his name, our luminous eminence, Smenkhkare, first of the true sons, herald of the Ancients, and venerated architect of the Order."
―Inscription excerpt on Smenkhkare's tomb.[src]-[m]

Ankhkhepure Smenkhkare Djeser Kheperu (died 1334 BCE) was a pharaoh of Egypt during the Amarna Period[1] and a founding member of the Order of the Ancients. He ruled over Egypt from 1335 BCE until his death a year later and was married to Queen Meritaten.[2] He succeeded Akhenaten, who was possibly his father.[1] Smenkhkare's tomb was deliberately built atop the Eeyoo Sekedoo Aat, an Isu construct which remained hidden until the arrival of the Medjay Bayek of Siwa in 48 BCE.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Smenkhkare is a historical character who is only mentioned in environment flavor text in the 2017 game Assassin's Creed: Origins. Despite his alleged familial connections with Akhenaten as his father and Tutankhamun as his brother, both of whom appear in Origins' 2018 downloadable expansion The Curse of the Pharaohs, Smenkhkare is not present in any capacity.
