Shahar (unknown – 1192) was the twin brother of Shalim, the son of Moloch, and a member of the Templar Order.

Biography

Shahar was first seen giving a speech to the people of Kyrenia, mistaken by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad as Shalim. Shahar told his audience of Armand Bouchart's wishes and the consequences for those who did not obey. After his speech, Shahar made his way into Saint Hilarion Castle, disappearing. Altaïr, having found a quick route into the castle by a group of courtesans – Maria Thorpe among them – followed Shahar inside.

Death

Inside the castle, Maria interrogated Shahar about the Templars' goal and an Apple of Eden, soon to be disrupted by the intruding Assassin. At that point, as Shalim joined Shahar, Altaïr discovered that they were in fact twin brothers, and not the same person as he had believed them to be.

Maria fled shortly after, leaving the brothers to fight against the lone Assassin. As adept swordsmen, Shalim and Shahar were confident they would quickly overwhelm their opponent. However, Altaïr, in his rage and frustration by the betrayal he had to endure, kept fighting for his life, eventually slaying the twins.

Personality and characteristics

In contrast to his brother, Shahar was a very calm, well-studied, and religious man. He was truly loyal to the Templar idea of a perfect world. Altaïr did not know about Shahar until the very moment he appeared to combat the Assassin alongside his brother.

Trivia

  • Shahar is a variant of the name Shachar, שַׁחַר, meaning "dawn" in Hebrew.
  • In the ancient Canaanite religion, Shahar and Shalim were twin deities - the gods of dawn and dusk respectively.
