The Pyramid of Kukulkan, also known as El Castillo and the Castillo Temple, is a Mesoamerican step-pyramid that dominates the center of the Chichen Itza archaeological site in the Mexican state of Yucatán.

Built by the pre-Columbian Maya civilization sometime between the 9th and 12th centuries CE, the pyramid served as a temple to the god Kukulkan, a deity closely related to Quetzalcoatl.

History[]

During the 18th century, a work site was set up near the temple. Orchestrated by Templars, the community, largely consisting of kidnapped slaves, excavated the region's ruins in search of First Civilization artifacts. By 1769, the settlement had been freed of Templar influence by the Assassin Aveline de Grandpré.

Trivia[]

  • In the original PS Vita iteration, the scaffolding around the temple was set up in such a way that the top could only be reached once the whip had been acquired. The HD remake revamped the landmark's outlook, allowing it to be ascended much more quickly and easily.
  • Two of Jeanne's diary pages could be found at the pyramid; one lay on the scaffolding, while the other was located inside the temple chamber.
  • A Mayan statuette could also be found inside said chamber.
