The Pirate Flintlock was an 18th century blunderbuss flintlock pistol associated with pirates.

History

In 1773, the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton intercepted the Man O' War Dartmoor off the coast of New Jersey on a privateer contract to destroy the secrets the Dartmoor held. With his ship the Aquila, he destroyed the Dartmoor and its fleet, a success for which he was rewarded a Pirate Flintlock.[1]

Trivia

AC3 Pirate Flintlock

The Pirate Flintlock, as erroneously depicted in general stores.

  • The Pirate Flintlock, alongside the naval mission "Sinking a Secret" that unlocks it, was initially an exclusive bonus for pre-ordering Assassin's Creed III from Walmart. It eventually became available, along with all other pre-order bonuses, through downloadable content The Hidden Secrets Pack.
  • In the purchase menu of general stores, a Royal Navy Sea Service Flintlock with the ramrod is erroneously used as the depiction of the Pirate Flintlock.
  • In Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the Pirate Blunderbusses initially shared the same model as the Pirate Flintlock in promotional media, where they were depicted as the pistols of choice for the main protagonist Edward Kenway. In the released game, the Pirate Blunderbusses are instead based on a different model of naval blunderbuss flintlock pistol.
  • In spite of being described as a blunderbuss, the Pirate Flintlock lacks the later gameplay mechanics of blunderbusses because blunderbusses as a distinct gameplay class of weapons had not yet been introduced to the series at the time of Assassin's Creed III.
