Pennsylvania is a state in the northeastern region of the United States, bordering New York, Ohio, and New Jersey. It was one of the thirteen colonies that claimed independence from Great Britain during the American Revolutionary War.

History[]

The indigenous peoples of Pennsylvania include the Lenape and Shawnee. The former were forced to leave in an infamous deal known as the "Walking Purchase" with the sons of William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania. During the Seven Years' War, the two nations helped the French Army prevent the Braddock Expedition from capturing Fort Duquesne.[1]

Around the start of the Revolution, the Continental Congress convened in Philadelphia and signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The Colonial Assassins contracted by Connor kept a watchful eye on Signatories journeying through the state, in case anyone sought to disrupt the proceedings by attacking them.[1]

By September 1777, the British Army led by William Howe advanced on Philadelphia, defeating the Continental Army at the Battles of Paoli and Germantown, though the Assassins tried to intervene and prevent further losses. Philadelphia was occupied by the British and Congress relocated to York. George Washington was ordered to have the Continental Army make their winter camp between the two locations at Valley Forge. The British eventually left Philadelphia that summer to regroup in New York City.[1]

At the beginning of 1781, the Pennsylvania Line threatened to mutiny. Connor recognized the high level of drinking during New Year's celebrations could increase dissent, and sent his recruits to blend with the crowd to encourage reaching a favorable pay settlement with their commanders.[1]
