Palermo is a city in southern Italy, capital of both the autonomous island region of Sicily and the Province of Palermo. During the Renaissance, the Assassins and Templars waged a war for control of the city.

Originally ruled over by the native Italic peoples and then the ancient Greeks, the island of Sicily, and Palermo with it, frequently changed hands. By 1511, the city was part of the Spanish Crown of Aragon, with the Templars and Assassins fighting for control.
