Les Halles (English: The Halls) was the central market for all of Paris' fresh food. It was demolished in 1971 and replaced by the Westfield Forum des Halles, a modern shopping mall.

History[]

By the end of the 12th century, King Philip II of France established different market in Paris. The different markets, then known as "Les Champeaux", later evolved into the Les Halles quarter.[1]

The marketplace was the location of the Church of Saint-Eustache, the second biggest church in Paris, which started construction in 1532 and ended in 1637.[2]
