Sir Henry Morgan (c. 1635 – 1688) was a Welsh privateer, pirate, and admiral of the English Royal Navy. While serving in the Navy, his primary targets were Spanish settlements and fleets, and his accomplishments included leading the attack to liberate Jamaica from Spanish control; after taking the island, he was named Lieutenant Governor. As a pirate, he became notorious around the West Indies, most notably for the capture and razing of Panama City in 1671. The Dutch buccaneer Laurens Prins served under him as an officer during the city's siege.
