DescriptionEdit

Charles Dickens had Jacob or Evie investigate a series of suspicious robberies on behalf of the Ghost Club.

DialogueEdit

The Frye twins met with Charles Dickens.

  • Dickens: There's been a spate of rather intriguing thefts about town recently.

Evie and Jacob would have different reactions.

  • Jacob: Robberies? In London? I never thought I'd see the day!
  • Evie: Robberies in London are hardly supernatural events.
  • Dickens: They looked like common robberies at first, but these perpetrators have all claimed to have been under the influence of some supernatural power. I'm not so foolish as to forget that criminals will spin any yarn to avoid the law. However, these thieves all proffer the same defense: they say they were being controlled by a demon. Will you make some inquiries? One of our demon-possessed mobsmen is being held behind bars at this very moment. You may want to begin your search there.

Evie investigating at the police station

Jacob or Evie went to the police station and interviewed the policeman.

  • Jacob: What's this one in for?
  • Evie: What's that man done?
  • Policeman: Robbed the pawnbroker's down the road.

The criminal spoke up.

  • Criminal: A demon made me do it! I can't remember much. That's what's so queer. I've never stolen anything in my life before!
  • Jacob: Who do you think made you do this?
  • Criminal: All I can recall is a silver watch, swinging in mid-air. It was held by someone, - or some thing! A dark presence whispering. I could only see its eyes. A demon!
  • Jacob: Maybe the shopkeeper will make more sense.

Evie's interaction with the criminal would be slightly different.

  • Criminal: A demon made me do it! I can't remember much. That's what's so queer. I've never stolen anything in my life before!
  • Evie: Let's pretend that I believe you. Tell me who made you do it.
  • Criminal: All I can recall is a silver watch, swinging in mid-air. It was held by someone, - or some thing! A dark presence whispering. I could only see its eyes. A demon!
  • Evie: I'll need to verify this with the shopkeeper.

The Assassin then visited the pawnshop, hoping to find some clues.

  • Jacob: May I ask you about the robbery?
  • Evie: What can you tell me about the robbery?
  • Owner: There's not much to say. Most of the items did come from the same seller. Enzio Capelli, sorcerer supreme, a famous showman, from Italy. Several weeks ago he was forced to pawn his family heirlooms. Debts. I have address of the last person who redeemed something of his. A lovely pearl necklace. That helpful?

A woman arrived at the pawnshop and nicked an item.

  • Owner: Not again! Stop her! Stop! Somebody stop that thief!

Jacob or Evie chased the thief and tackled her.

  • Thief 1: Where am I? What's happening?
  • Jacob: You were just indulging in a little light theft.
  • Thief 1: It's all very hazy but - I remember something silver flashing in front of my eyes. Then I heard a sort of bell. Next thing I know, I'm here with you.
  • Jacob: Back on track. Now to find this buyer.

Evie would react slightly differently.

  • Thief 1: Where am I? What's happening?
  • Evie: You took something from a pawn shop.
  • Thief 1: It's all very hazy but - I remember something silver flashing in front of my eyes. Then I heard a sort of bell. Next thing I know, I'm here with you.
  • Evie: My only lead is this mysterious buyer.

Locating the last buyer, Jacob or Evie witnessed another robbery.

  • Civilian: My necklace!
  • Evie: This chap might lead me to the "demon".
  • Jacob:' Let's not be so hasty this time.

The Assassin tailed the thief.

  • Enzio: Good. You want to give me the necklace, now, don't you?
  • Thief 2: Yes. I want to give you the necklace now.

Jacob confronted Capelli.

  • Jacob: Not a ghost, not a demon, but the great Enzio Capelli.
  • Capelli: You are very much mistaken, aren't you, my child?
  • Jacob: Yes. I'm very much mistaken. Wait! No I'm not!
  • Capelli: You are very much mistaken, and now you are so very, very tired, aren't you?
  • Jacob: Yes. I'm very, very tired.
  • Capelli: Now you're going to do a little job of work for me, aren't you?

Evie confronting Capelli

Evie's interaction with Enzio would be different.

  • Evie: Mr. Enzio Capelli, I presume? So you're responsible for the theft of your own jewels.
  • Capelli: You are very much mistaken, aren't you, my child?
  • Evie: Yes. I'm very much mistaken. Hold on!
  • Capelli: You are very much mistaken, and now you are so very, very tired, aren't you?
  • Evie: Yes. I'm very, very tired.
  • Capelli: Now you're going to do a little job of work for me, aren't you?

Hypnotized by Capelli, the Assassin later regained their consciousness and found themself in a cell, dancing.

  • Dickens: Ha, ha, my goodness! What "fowl" behavior!
  • Jacob: What's going on? Where the devil am I?
  • Dickens: You've been arrested for theft! How very intriguing!
  • Jacob: I can't remember a damn thing!
  • Dickens: Let's get you out of here. I've pulled a few strings and they won't prosecute on the account of you're losing your mind. Be free, little chicken!

Evie's reaction was slightly different.

  • Dickens: Ha, ha, my goodness! What "fowl" behavior!
  • Evie: What's going on? Where am I?
  • Dickens: You've been arrested for theft! How very intriguing!
  • Evie: I can't remember a jot of it.
  • Dickens: Let's get you out of here. I've pulled a few strings and they won't prosecute on the account of you're losing your mind. Be free, little chicken!

OutcomeEdit

One of the Frye twins discovered Enzio Capelli was behind the robberies, but they were hypnotized into committing a robbery as well, leading them to be arrested and allowing Capelli to escape.
