Hazad (died 1190) was a shopkeeper and a member of the Levantine Brotherhood of Assassins at the time of the Third Crusade.

Biography[]

In 1190, his agents stole from the Crusaders a map detailing the location of the Temple of Sand as part of a quest for an ancient relic known as the Chalice. The Crusaders tracked the theft to Hazad's shop, and a trio of them barged into the store demanding for the return of the map. Though Hazad feigned ignorance, the Crusaders saw through the lie and assaulted the Assassin. Finding the map, they prepared to leave just before the Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad arrived at the store, seconds too late to protect Hazad. After warning Altaïr not to get involved, they fled the scene in their haste to deliver the map back to their base.

Before he succumbed to his wounds, Hazad explained to Altaïr of the map his agents had stolen, urging him to give chase to the Crusaders before they reached their fortress. As Altaïr departed in pursuit, furious civilians throughout the marketplace pelted him with stones, as the Crusaders has been quick to implicate him in the murder.

Trivia[]

  • It is unclear whether Hazad was a rafiq or not. In the game, rafiq are known as Keepers, and in the previous mission, the Keeper of Jerusalem was shown to be Kadar. Altaïr never explicitly addresses him as a rafiq or a Keeper, but later during the chase, the Crusaders that slew him do refer to him as such, but only after just having mentioned him as a "shopkeeper" and so it may have been an abbreviation.
