The Walled Obelisk, also known as the Walled Column and Constantine's Column, is a stone obelisk situated at the southern end of the Hippodrome of Constantinople.
History[]
Its exact construction date is unknown, but it was repaired and further augmented by Constantine VII, after whom the column became named.[1]
Following the conquest of Constantinople by the Ottomans, the Hippodrome was abandoned; as a result, the obelisk became one of the Janissaries' preferred locations to train and show off their climbing prowess.[1]
