A Journal of Some Kind was a virtual representation of one of Ezio Auditore's genetic memories, relived by Desmond Miles in 2012 through the Animus 2.03.

Description[]

After escaping from the Byzantines, Ezio proceeded through the tunnel he uncovered beneath the fortress of Masyaf.

Dialogue[]

A Journal 1

Ezio inspecting the door

Ezio saw a few number of guards trying to break through a massive door. After quickly dispatching them, Ezio walked towards the worker who knelt at the foot of the door.

  • Adad: Be merciful! Please! I am a working man, with a family.
  • Ezio: Doing what kind of work?
  • Adad: Digging mostly. It took me a year to find this chamber. And for the past three months I have been trying to break through this door.
  • Ezio: You have not made much progress.
  • Adad: I have not made a dent! This stone is harder than steel.
  • Ezio: I doubt you will. This door is guarding objects more valuable than all the gold in the world.
  • Adad: Ah! Do you mean... gemstones?

Ezio inspected the door.

  • Ezio: There are keyholes here. Where are the keys?
  • Adad: These Templars found one beneath the Ottoman Sultan's palace. As for the others, I suppose their little book will tell them.
  • Ezio: What book?
  • Adad: A journal of some kind. That ugly captain, he carries it with him wherever he goes.

Ezio tossed the worker a pouch of money.

  • Ezio: Go home. Find work with honest men.
  • Adad: Oh, I would love to leave this place, but these men, they will murder me if I try.
  • Ezio: Pack your tools.
A Journal 5

Ezio leaving the fortress

Ezio exited the fortress and overheard nearby guards.

  • Guard: The Assassin MUST NOT get his hands on that book. When we reach Leandros, we will escort him out of the village. You stay behind and make sure we are not followed.

Ezio tailed the guards.

  • Leandros: Fiye apo brosta moul! (Out of my way!) None of you leave until the Assassin is dead. Do you understand?
  • Guard: Signome, kirie lohayé (Pardon, Captain), but he seems to have found us.
  • Leandros: Pame! Pame! (Go! Go!)

Outcome[]

Ezio learned that the journal giving the Masyaf Key locations was in Leandros' possession, and after tailing a group of guards to Masyaf village's outer gate, arrived just as Leandros tried to make his escape.

Behind the scenes[]

Ezio throws Adad a pouch of coins after speaking to him, even though the Animus overlay shows that Ezio has no akçe with him, nor has he had any since escaping his near hanging by Leandros.

Although the optional objective requires Ezio to not fail a single tail mission and the Animus hints note only one successful tail is enough to fully synchronize the memory, implying that there are multiple tails to do, the memory only has the one unavoidable tailing mission to complete.

Interacting with three highlighted objects in Masyaf's main hall allows Ezio to see a "ghost" of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad from the events during the Masyaf Key memories. Starting when facing the staircase and moving counter-clockwise along the upper balcony, touching a full bookshelf will show Altaïr pick up Al Mualim's non-existant body in "The Mentor's Wake", and touching Al Mualim's desk will show Altaïr leap out the window behind it in "A New Regime". Finally, touching a short book table will show Altaïr talk up to a non-existant Abbas Sofian on the staircase before shooting him with the Hidden Gun in "The Mentor's Return", although the ghost wears his standard robes rather than the more tattered attire seen in the actual memory.
