Wishing to escape a life of fear, Giovanni responded to a letter delivered by courier pigeon by locating its sender in the city. Using the rare gift of Eagles Vision, he identified a hooded figure in the streets, before the man took flight. Giovanni rushed after him, and after a brief pursuit the man revealed himself to be Francesco Vecellio, an Assassin.
Francesco, the former apprentice of Perotto Calderon – Giovanni's probable father – offered to take the boy under his wing and train him in the ways of the Brotherhood.
