Behind the scenes[]

Despite their listing, the contracts are not in chronological order, with the events surrounding Fort Ticonderoga giving perhaps the best example. The fifth mission in New York, "Weakness at Ticonderoga", has recruits escort Benedict Arnold to capture the fort on 10 May 1775. However, it paradoxically unlocks after New York's first mission "Action at Long Island", which focuses on the Battle of Long Island on 27 August 1776, and long after both Quebec missions about the later Siege of Fort St. Jean from 17 September to 3 November 1775 and the Battle of Quebec in December 1775, despite being them being the first contracts players can accept. To further confuse matters, it also unlocks after Massachusetts' fourth mission "The Guns of Ticonderoga", in which Henry Knox spent all winter from 17 November 1775 until 25 January 1776 moving the fort's guns through the mountains. Playing the contracts as listed makes it seem, among other errors, as if the guns were spuriously transported to Dorchester Heights before the Assassins noted the hill overlooking the apparently now-defenseless fort.

Even if players assumed the contracts are arranged in historical order, it would still be impossible to play them sequentially due to the changing difficulty levels that vary widely from one region to the next. Seeing as a maximum of 3 recruits can go to a single place, and depending on their apprentices' progression, players may encounter an event chronologically next in the Revolutionary War but with a difficulty far above their recruits' levels even if teamed together.
