Story[]

I feel that Story shouldn't be removed, because some people want the story without having to read that tremendous Walkthrough page. It would be even worse if we broke the Walkthrough page into many pages... which you know really should be done.

Also, you're flagging pages with :Template:CSD|CSD when you should instead use Delete. CSD is for removals that would be uncontroversial, like:

  • pages that are extremely short, with no content
  • blatant vandalism or spam (Chuck Norris Chuck Norris Chuck Norris Chuck Norris)
  • No relation to the context of the wiki (See ps4)

The removal of CSD would certainly be controversial, so instead you should use Delete.

I think that Story should be put together under the game page itself. So if you wanna know bout the story of Assassin's Creed 2, for example, just go straight to the Assassin's Creed 2 page, no? Besides, that page is a damn low quality article and badly written. I mean, literally, it is a really badly written page. It should meet its doom. Or at least that's what I think.
as for CSD thingy, thanks for the tips! ^^ - SilverSummonerTaLk 02:29, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

A bad page does not always need deletion. It may just need a rewrite. I am currently preparing to massively overhaul the walkthrough and I will probably end up overhauling the Story page too.
And the Assassin's Creed 2 page should have a story section, but only a summary of the story. There is a reason we have Template:main.

{{Main|story}}

It would be best to have a summary on the AC2 page, with a link to the unsummarized one. Also, it would probably be best to have the part on the Story page be incomplete, ending i.e. in "Altaïr must climb back to the top of the Order by performing assassinations..." or the like. The full story would be on the Story page. - Elecbullet 02:46, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Template:Main is used for specific terms that appears in an article, such as weapons, assassins, and such. Story is definitely NOT a specific term. - SilverSummonerTaLk 02:50, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
...Where did you get that idea?
For an example of how the template should be used, have a look at Weapons. An unsummarized description of the Hidden Blade, if placed in the Weapons article itself, make the page tremendously long and hard to read. So we summarize the description, and put the full description in its own article. The main template is used to link to that article.
Surely the story of AC2 will be complex, stretching the page greatly if integrated into the AC2 page.
Weapon page --> that's exactly what I mean. It refers to specific terms such as Hidden Blade, Long Sword, you name it. Sometimes it refers to a list as well. Story isn't a specific term nor a list. Story is just.. story. It should be put in the game itself to avoid confusion. So what if the page is long? it's not like it will cause an avalanche it we have a page bigger than 30kb size. - SilverSummonerTaLk 03:25, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
But it will make the page hard to read.
If you have a look at Wikipedia's page on the main template it says nothing about lists, specific terms, or anything.
"When a Wikipedia article is large, it is often rewritten in summary style. This template is used below the heading of the summary, to link to the sub-article that has been (or will be) summarised.
This template is not to be used as a substitute for inline links or as a "see also". Its usage should be restricted to the purpose described above."
If you really want a better example than the Weapons page, see this page. That is not part of a list.
...Why are you referring to Wikipedia? we're not wikipedia. We're wikia. Look here and here for example.
Also, wherever I see it, whether it's on movie/game/book pages on wikipedia, or a game page in other wikia, the story is always put on the game page. Because it's not referring to anything but the story of the game itself. If the story is too long, then we should somehow make it shorter. splitting the story pages will cause confusion and is bad for the navigation template if you know what I mean. - SilverSummonerTaLk 03:43, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

...Well, I knew you liked that FFwiki so I went there to prove my point before you wrote this message. And it does in fact do it your way. This makes me unsure, but I still don't like your method so much.
But this is the Assassin's Creed wiki! We can't just abridge the story of Assassin's Creed!! I haven't played any FF games (once played Chocobo's Dungeon though) so I can't really compare the stories... - Elecbullet 03:48, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
By the way, when AC2 comes out, that would cause confusion with the story pages. So we could move Story to Storyline of Assassin's Creed. Then make a Storyline of Assassin's Creed 2. Then make Story a disambiguation page. That would help a lot. - Elecbullet 03:58, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Well if you don't like FFwiki I can give you another examples from other wiki. here (though this one isn't fully complete yet) or here or maybe here and also here
I know this is Assassins Creed wiki. I like this wiki very much and it is the exact reason why I'm trying to make its articles at their highest possible quality. - SilverSummonerTaLk 05:00, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
If you're trying to make them their highest possible quality you should know that we can not abridge the storyline.
I don't have anything against the FFWiki, but I think the storyline of Assassin's Creed is too complex... You have two settings- 2012 and 1191. If you can find a way to fit that all into a section without making the page horrendous, or abridging it, sure. Go ahead.
Abridging? well.. the story of Assassin's Creed won't be as long as the U.S history, I suppose... so it won't be that abridging~ ^^ - SilverSummonerTaLk 06:07, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

I had an idea... Go to the wiki of a game that I personally know has a complicated storyline. Then, it would possibly prove my point. I chose Bioshock, having played it myself, so I know its story is complex.

So I went to the Bioshock wiki, found the Bioshock page, and this is what I see:

==Story==

Main article: Storyline

The story of Bioshock places you in the mind of Jack, a regular guy. You are on a airplane crossing the Atlantic Ocean, when suddenly the plane crashes into the sea. Your only hope for survival is a large tower on a small island near the crash site. You make your way inside and take a small submersible down to the under water city of Rapture. You must fight the inhabitants of the underwater hell in order to survive.

So yes, I found a wiki that does it my way. I found similar results on the Metal Gear wiki's pages for Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3.

It appears that wikis about games with complicated storylines will separate the storyline into its own article, whereas if they are for games without such complex stories, the story is embedded into the game's page. The question is: is the story of Assassin's Creed complex enough to merit its own page? I feel that it is.

New section because that last one was getting ridiculous. - Elecbullet 02:17, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi:

I recently registered on assassinscreed.wikia.com. I'm intending to go looking around a tiny bit and make contact with interesting folks and learn a few things.

Hopefully this post did not end up in the wrong category. I'm sorry if it does.
