This is a list of gameplay bugs that have been discovered in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
PS3, 360 & PC : When tackling a pickpocket by leaping from a horse, or from on top, or off the side of a wall, Ezio rarely began to float upwards due to landing exactly on top of him. If the player tried to grab a wall, it would simply change Ezio's floating direction and speed as he bounced off it. This would also occur by calling in some of the Apprentices to assist Ezio. When one tried to kill a guard using their Hidden Blade at the same time as Ezio, the Apprentice would get the kill and Ezio would begin floating. A similar glitch to this occurred when climbing a building, where Ezio began to levitate, without flying away, though movement was still impossible; Eagle Vision wouldn't work properly. The best fix was to restart the console, as progress would be saved and Ezio would restart on the ground. This glitch could similarly be triggered by a horse or air assassination. Rarely, the 'Floating Ezio' glitch could be triggered by dismounting a galloping horse whilst riding up stairs.
The Phantom Of The BoatEdit
PS3 (Unsure for other platforms): While in Sequence 4, Memory 1, the player can row a gondola to the docks of the castello, restart the memory, and return to the spot where the gondola was to find that it is now invisible. Ezio can stand on the invisible boat, but cannot row it anywhere without being teleported back to the original place the gondola was found.
There is a glitch on the PS3 where Ezio's recruits turn against him and start to fight him in open-combat.
PC/PS3: A rare glitch occurs when the player rides a horse to a staircase leading to the Tiber River. Sometimes, the horse will keep moving onto the water instead of stopping at the water's edge. A game restart will resolve this glitch.
360: In the Animus Virtual Training Program during a combat challenge, Ezio was able to move outside of the arena when moving on to the next wave of attackers. It was also possible to attack and be attacked through the walls.
PS3: In the memory corridor for the repressed memories if you shoot Cristina she will stop running and she will freeze, this may cause the PS3 to crash
Training Ad InfinitumEdit
360: When doing a Virtual Training Mission, occasionally, the challenge would restart for no apparent reason, even when doing an action or taking a path that had been successful multiple times before.
360: When doing the Flawless All Weapons challenge in Virtual Training, the maximum number of guards that spawn was set at 116. After killing the final guard, no more spawned and the player had to exit or restart the challenge to continue. The score was not saved.
Hidden Vaticano DistrictEdit
PS3 and 360: On a regular basis, the Vaticano District became hidden, as if no View Points had been synchronized there, even if all 24 View Points in the game had been. This happened even though there were no View Points in the Vaticano district apart from the church in the very beginning of the game. Exiting to the main menu and reloading the save game fixed the glitch.
Armor of BrutusEdit
PS3, 360 and PC: When replaying a memory with a certain armor that had not been unlocked during that Sequence, Ezio may be forced to wear the Armor of Brutus, even if it was impossible to obtain at the time of the original memory. Attempting to put on a different piece of armor after completing a memory while wearing the Armor of Brutus then makes the armor permanent. However, Ezio would change armors, but only the skin would change.
Various bugs of the synchronization bar may appear, including:
- 5 "higher" squares indicated as full, even if they are not. (The player is then able to use medicine to heal, even though the bar may appear full) Damage taken will not appear until at least 5 squares worth of damage is taken. The "lower" squares may then appear damaged or empty (Visually creating a "gap" of empty squares in between full squares), and the player is able to die.
- The 5 higher squares may also contain broken armor indicators that may be reset to full squares by healing when replaying a memory.
The bug has been claimed fixed but is still reproducible.
Normal poison originally appeared in the inventory; after upgrading to fast poison, the game showed normal poison as locked. It was still usable, however.
Game Ending BugEdit
360: During a new save file (after finishing the game once before), the player had to enter the Animus for Desmond's introduction to Rebecca's upgrades. The Virtual Training mission would not start, leaving the player unable to move. Starting a new game did not fix this.
PC, 360 and PS3: Occasionally, for unknown reasons, civilians became invisible, though they were there and reacted as normal civilians do, but killing them would not result in warning messages and desyncronisation. This could also happen to the recruits when called for assistance, though the guards were aware of their presence, and both fought normally. This was especially noticeable when walking forward while holding the pickpocket button. Amounts of Florins would appear on the screen as if citizens were being pickpocketed.
Apple, Hidden Blade and ArmorEdit
360: If Ezio attempted to retrieve the Armor and Dagger of Brutus, the player was automatically equipped with the dagger. This was problematic when holding the Apple, because Ezio isn't supposed to be equipped with anything except the Apple at this point. If the Apple was reselected as the primary weapon, Ezio froze, prompting a memory restart. This deleted both the Armor and Dagger of Brutus from that save file.
Additionally, if a player(while equipped with the Apple of Eden) would mount upon a horse then jump off it or use the pigeon coops he would be equipped with a single Hidden Blade and could perform one assassination, afterwards he would stay with the Hidden Blade, but only be able to block with it. This could be fixed by selecting the Apple from the Weapon wheel.
PS3, 360 & PC: It was possible to fall through the map when falling into water—this occurred after a guard falls into the same place beforehand. Ezio fell into invisible water and was unable to do anything other than swim. To remove this Bug you have to swim to one of the stairs, which lead you to the water.
360: Sometimes, when walking around on the ground within Castel Sant'Angelo, invisible guards will be present. Ezio can walk into them and kill them and loot their bodies. However, they will not attack you.
Very rarely, for unknown reasons, there were a few guards who could not be killed and would not respond to criminal activity. Ezio could attack or assassinate these guards just as he would to kill any other. In the glitch, however, once they fell to the ground, they got back up, just as if they had merely being thrown or knocked over. However, normal guards would respond to the attempts to kill the invincible guards. Leaving and returning later fixed this. The game occasionally would freeze if the player remained in the area too long.
Once the Cinquedea short blade was unlocked at Blacksmith shops, it was pictured as the Channeled Cinquedea. It was labeled and in fact Ezio used the Notched version of the blade.
Play Dead, CesareEdit
In the final encounter against Cesare Borgia, if Ezio ran into Cesare he sometimes lay on the floor as if he had been killed and acted like a corpse. This prevented the player from interacting with him and the guards continued to attack Ezio infinitely. A mission restart fixed the problem.
Frozen Cesare Edit
During Sequence 9, Pax Romana, it is possible for Cesare to freeze in the final battle against Ezio and do nothing, he also becomes unable to be targeted. Soldiers will still keep coming, but Cesare himself just stays still for the rest of the battle. It is still possible to damage and defeat Cesare by simply using untargeted attacks.
Sometimes, when at the starting screen, when the player pressed 'start', they would be sent straight to Multiplayer without an option to go to Story mode. On an Xbox 360, the problem was fixed by disconnecting from Xbox Live or deleting the most recent save. There is no known solution for the PS3.
When playing through the Animus "obstacle course" level after solving all the clusters, taking the wrong path too many times caused the game to glitch . The player was stuck in an area that he or she can't leave. Restarting the console began the fix. Once back in the game, Ezio would appear to be Desmond until the Truth was re-accessed and properly solved.
A freeze rarely occurred after emerging from the Animus and listening to Subject 16. Restarting the console returned Ezio to Italy as normal, though some items would have to be re-equipped. If the player ran too fast, he or she could get stuck in a section of stairs that hadn't loaded properly yet. The only exit was a restart of the Truth mission.
Another glitch often occurred after completing The Truth, during the cutscene in the Sanctuary. Desmond's model would lay rigid and horizontal on the Animus, vibrating slightly, while the rest of the cutscene played out as if Desmond was interacting with Lucy. Following the cutscene, Desmond would be standing normally, but trapped in the center of the Animus, unable to get out of it, with the only available option being to interact with the Animus and return to Rome.
Herald Camera ReversalEdit
360: Whenever notoriety had ncreased to a certain amount, heralds started to appear as normal and could be bribed. Occasionally, bumping into a herald and bribing him at the same time caused the camera to be reversed to always show Ezio's front and what was behind him. (This had also been reported on the PS3, though it was noticeably rarer.)
When replaying a memory with the Ultimate Guild cheat activated, exiting replay mode left all recruits at the Assassino rank. If the Assassin's Guild challenge of training recruits was not complete, Altaïr's Sword became unobtainable until a new game was started or some Recruits were killed.
A bug present in all platforms allowed all bankers to be killed by all melee weapons in Ezio's arsenal. The banker will appear to be highlighted(as an enemy does when locked on to) and will always be instantly killed by the selected weapon. After having been "killed", the banker would stand up again as though he had only fallen.(similar to the undying guards bug) The bankers may be killed as many times as wished until he falls behind too far to reach. Another bug involves approaching a bank at a run and holding the Attack button with the hidden blade equipped allowed Ezio to assassinate a banker. However, he was trapped behind the bars of the bank until the game was reloaded from the main screen.
After the War Machine missions were unlocked, if the player replayed Sequence 2 Memory 3, he or she could access the missions if they chose not to interact with Machiavelli. Patience was required, as desynchronization happened occasionally. By traveling to Tiber Island, the player then had to change outfits and the game caused the player to reappear at different areas of the map, such as the Colosseum. In order to reach the missions, the player was advised to travel via horse but to remain at slow speeds, in order to avoid desynchronization. By doing so the player could complete all the War Machine missions without any armor added to their robes. This was a very rare, temperamental glitch.
Free Running CitizensEdit
If Ezio grabbed a civilian and threw them over a wall next to water onto land, they got back up and started freerunning back up up the wall or scale the buildings nearby, running away until out of Ezio's sight. The best place for this was the wall directly opposite the Doctor shop on Tiber Island.
When entering Lairs of Romulus your parachutes will be reduced to zero, sometimes they will stay this way after you leave/finish the mission.
If Ezio's synchronization became low, going through a tunnel to any destination restored it.
The Weapons' Disappearance Edit
Sometimes, when on one of the War Machine missions, all the weapons Leonardo da Vinci gave Ezio (second Hidden Blade, poison darts, etc.) could be lost. This happens if the player fails a mission after burning the plans. However, all the weapons will still be shown in the Equipment menu. In addition, the metal cestus (climb leap glove) can disappear while wearing the Armor of Brutus. It is not known whether the damage you inflict while fist fighting is that of the cestus or of bare knuckles. The climb leap ability still works. This can happen if you have the option to re-equip the climb leap glove when you sit down to meet with Leonardo.
Sometimes, after rescuing a civilian Ezio wished to recruit, the recruit's in-game model would leave him or her without a neck. It was particularly noticeable on the PS3 and more so for female recruits.
Like numerous third-person shooter games, the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood camera could be made to appear behind Ezio's shoulder by entering the loading screen with the crossbow assigned to any quick select slot. If the player selected the crossbow, aimed and did not shoot, upon entering Rome, the game would show Ezio from behind his shoulder. It was possible to attempt this from the other side while aiming the hidden gun. Most actions, including jumping into haystacks, aiming either weapon, climbing etc. would disable the shoulder cam, though freerunning notably would not.
Rarely, Ezio's short blade, sword, mace, or heavy weapon became invisible or would remain sheathed. The player could still use it, and any means of sheathing the weapon disabled this. In some cases, the player would be unable to block or counter enemy attacks.
Occasionally a murdered minstrel would fall and lose one or both arms. This only appeared to happen with Minstrels.
Ezio occasionally spawned on a horse, though this did not impede his normal operation.
On very rare occasions, parts of the outer villa in Monteriggioni disappeared in the mission Emergency Exit and thus allowed the player to look inside.
PC: Sometimes, when the game was left minimized for too long, the menu and game interface changed. For example, when entering a game after leaving it thus minimized, the slideshow of the textures in-game (leaves, pavements, walls) played across the screen, allowing the player to continue playing without seeing the results. The screen also became covered with character model textures, resembling The Truth screens slightly.
Reversed Hidden BladeEdit
Occasionally, the hidden blade when selected and not in use would become reversed, often during cutscenes. This was fixed by selecting the Hidden Blade from the Weapons Wheel or the Quick Selection Menu.
Desmond in RomeEdit
After completing every Glyph puzzle and Desmond enters the virtual maze where he meets Subject 16, exiting the Animus will send the player back to Rome as Desmond, not Ezio. Unlike the Desmond skin unlocked by achieving 100% synchronization on Section 8, this skin only has Desmond's single Hidden Blade and fists as he has when he is in Monteriggioni. When free-running, he grunts like Desmond, not Ezio. He can still ride horses as Ezio would. It is probable that this only happens if the player gets stuck between an animus wall and red stairs that do not load in time for the player to run up them, or another unwanted glitch.
Beyond the WallsEdit
This bug happens occasionally when the player is rowing a gondola. If the player holds the row button for too long, he or she will find themselves outside the walls of Rome, where the empty space on the map is located. The player may explore any part of it, but there is little space for walking and may fall into invisible water. Restarting the game fixes this bug, and the player will be at the Rosa in Fiore Tunnel Entrance.
Chest Capture CompassEdit
So far, this bug has only been noticed on PS3. Xbox 360 and PC is yet to be confirmed. This bug happens occasionally when you "camp" at a chest too long in Chest Capture, then get disconnected from the host. If you stay at one chest for almost an entire round, then get disconnected from the host, the sound of your compass being desynchronized due to being at a chest will continue to play, even when you start to play another multiplayer game mode. The sound will only occur when playing multiplayer (if it continues to play in singleplayer needs to be confirmed) . The only way to fix this is an easy game restart.
Gloveless Climb Leap GloveEdit
Purchasing the Climb Leap Glove before the Double Hidden Blades renders Ezio with the Armored outer shell, but not the leather glove that comes with the Double Hidden Blades. This makes Ezio appear as though he has a metallic outer hand. This bug has been observed on the PC version of the game.
Its also possible to get the Climb Leap Glove gloveless by replaying Sequence 2 Memory 3 and playing the mission all the way through (If you already have the Climb Leap Glove and Double Hidden Blade purchased).
Pantasilea, the (Dead) Invisible WomanEditThis bug has been reported on the 360, and occurs when being assigned new Assassination contracts by Pantasilea. Upon entering the barracks of Caserma di Alviano, there appears to be no one waiting behind the desk at all. However, approaching the desk will prompt the Speak command, allowing Ezio to speak with the seemingly invisible woman. The cutscene plays as normal, Pantasilea suddenly visible again, and upon accepting the new contracts, she appears behind the desk in her usual stance. Seconds later, however, she collapses to the floor, remaining unmoving as though a corpse. She cannot be interacted with, as neither of Ezio's arm commands can be used inside the establishment. Exiting the barracks and re-entering caused her to re-appear, alive and well.
The Armor of (Altaïr) DesmondEditThis bug, confirmed on all platforms, occurs when the player equipped the outfit of the Armor of Altaïr in Sequence 1, after the player leaves the Animus and becomes Desmond for the first time in the game. When Desmond and Lucy are entering the tunnels, Desmond will appear to be equipped with the outfit. After they converse and the map loads, the player will return to being Desmond. The bug will happen for a last time when Desmond exits the tunnels into the Sanctuary. On the Xbox360, this bug appears to work with all available outfits and has been seen with the Drachen Armor and Altaïr's Robes also.
This bug happens on all systems. When replaying the second Cristina memory, (Last Rites), in which you have to move your family's corpses into a boat, you can walk around Florence. If you walk around the edge of the map, as close to the barrier as is safe, you will eventually come across a man (on the further east side of the map, south east from the destination mark at the beginning of the memory) standing between two buildings, without a head. Instead he has a flashing red orb saying "replace/remove objects!". He can be interacted with like any other civilian. He cannot be looted and killing him will result in desynchronization except with mercenaries.
The Unrecruitable RecruitEdit
PS3 and 360: A rebellious citizen stationed near the north city gates in the Centro District cannot be recruited to join the Assassins. Every time Ezio gets within a few blocks of him or her, the guards will either kill the citizen (causing nearby citizens to flee as normal) or the citizen will simply disappear, causing the guards to walk away like nothing happened. There is no known fix.
Swimming guardEditPC: Very rarely, when a guard falls from a bridge to water, he would swim instead of die. It also happens when a guard falls to water from a wooden beam rising from the water.
Wanna see a dead body?Edit
This very random and common glitch which occurs when Ezio pulls a guard off a horse during combat. He will then keep looking at that guard. Even when he moves away, his head will keep turning in the direction of that guard and will have to travel far to stop this bug. He will also stop turning his head if he tears down a notoriety poster.
Sometimes while fists are selected and the player is sprinting, he does not need to press the shove button to push people out of the way, as long as he is holding down the armed hand button. Ezio will continue sprinting in full-speed and people will be automatically pushed out of his way.
A rare glitch occurs after the mission Property Dispute where Ezio's entire upper body will become frozen with his arms down. The player can still walk, run, and sprint but contact with anything will cause the player to return to normal. Furthermore if the player stays still for a while Ezio will move his cape over his arm and this will cause this arm to be unfrozen but the rest of the body remains unaffected. This happens if the player starts sprinting immediately after pointing at Santino.
Camera on horseEdit
A rare glitch on PC that occurs when Ezio rides a horse at the same time the guard rides it too. Then Ezio will be shown floating and the camera will follow the horse, the horse will then become uncontrollable. To fix this, simply restart the game.
Un-cinematic Pigeon CoopEdit
This glitch is very common and can be achieved by first interacting with a pigeon coop and then exiting it. If you press the interact button quickly before the camera fully zooms out, you can see the pigeon fly down to Ezio's hand at the normal zoom level. It will also do this when you leave the pigeon coop screen after performing this glitch. Normally, when you interact with a pigeon coop, the camera zooms in to only show Ezio's face and arm.
Near the end of the mission Hell on Wheels, the player can trigger the two enemy tanks to start moving, and then once the player has backed up beyond the desynchronisation barrier until the "Desynchronisation imminent" message is seen, Ezio's tank will be undamagable by enemy tanks, although the player would bleed health squares due to being close to desynchronisation. This technique does not cause the 100% synch requirement to fail, so this glitch can be used to fully complete the mission more easily.
Vatican rooftop guardEdit
Minor bug, sometimes when Ezio is walking on the rooftops in Vatican, guards there will not attack but lag and start repeating his usual lines like "Get down!" repeatedly.
Horse Through PlatformEdit
When riding your horse, if you go off a drop with a platform nearby, the horses legs will pass through the platform, and you cannot move. Dismounting, going far from your horse and calling it again will fix this.
Sprinting with weaponsEdit
Should the player use the controls to pick up any weapon, or equip one, and sprint away at the same time, Ezio would be able to sprint without dropping or sheathing it.
This bug is harmless, and can be quite useful should the player wish to carry around a weapon without having to merely jog.
This glitch is very rare, but sometimes, it's unknown why, Ezio lost his cape and remained without it until you restart game.
