Assassin's Creed is a non-canonical, sixteen-page graphic novel that was included as promotional material in the Limited Edition[1] of Assassin's Creed and later distributed to EB Games store managers in 2007 to promote the game.[2][3] The story served as a prelude to the game and introduced its protagonists by telling overlapping stories of the Levantine Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad during the Third Crusade and Desmond Miles in 2012.

Plot summary[]

Desmond runs outside Abstergo Industries' facility in Rome. A security guard checks a hallway and is distracted by a noise in the ventilation ducts. He investigates but finds nothing and reports back to operations, unaware that Desmond has climbed into and crouches in a shaft above and behind him. Desmond continues on, sneaking behind Dr. Warren Vidic and other suited Templars back into the Animus Project laboratory where he was held.

He enters the unlit room and the doors close. Desmond approaches the dormant Animus 1.28 and runs a finger along it, enough physical contact for the machine to turn back on and make him experience a memory of Altaïr in 1191 hunting Templars in Acre while searching for their Grand Master, Robert de Sablé.

Desmond synchronizes with Altaïr's memories but is interrupted when the Templars open the lab doors and spot him. Back in Acre, Altaïr is also spotted after killing a guard and is chased down an alley, where he fights his pursuers in close-combat. Although both men get cornered in dead ends, with Altaïr standing alone and victorious in his lethal brawl while Desmond resolves to fight his way out, they affirm to themselves that they are Assassins.

Dialogue[]

  • Desmond: My name is Desmond Miles...And I am a prisoner.
  • Guard 1: Sector 8 -Check- ...Clear...
  • Operations: ...Sector 9?? Sector 9...Do you copy?
  • Guard 2: Sector 9, clear..

The guard heard a loud noise in the vents, but it quickly faded away.

  • Guard 2: Nothing...
  • Operations: Sector 9-13, Everything's alright?
  • Guard 2: Yeah...It's all clear!
  • Operations: Roger that!
  • Guard 2: Need maintenance to fix these damn vents!
  • Desmond: I don't know what these men want from me...don't know why they abducted me.

Desmond opened the door to the Animus Project laboratory.

  • Desmond: ...why they brought me to this place.

The door closed loudly behind Desmond. He touched the Animus, which reactivated in response to his touch and transported his mind into a projection of his ancestor's memory.

  • Altaïr: My name is Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.
  • Templar: Maudit (Damn) rats...

Altaïr silently assassinated him from behind and leapt to climb a wall.

  • Altaïr: I track these men so that I might know the truth.

He jumped across a rooftop.

  • Altaïr: Know who leads them...

An archer saw Altaïr climbing the city fortifications.

  • Archer: Alerte! (Alarm!)
  • Altaïr: ...what he plans.
  • Archer: AARRHH!

Altaïr stabbed and pulled the archer off the ledge. The archer's descent attracted the attention of multiple guards down below.

Altaïr leapt down and killed one of the onlookers, landing on him and crushing the guard's head into the ground. Back in 2012, Desmond awoke from the Animus when Abstergo staff discovered him.

  • Abstergo staff: Get him!

They chased him down a hall.

  • Desmond: My name is Desmond Miles...

The Templars in Acre pursued Altaïr down an alley.

  • Templar 3: Attrapez-le! (Get him!)

Altaïr activated his Hidden Blade and slew two men with it, slicing into one's face and stabbing into the back of another who ran past. He stood alone surrounded by corpses.

  • Altaïr: My name is Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad...And I am an Assassin.

Cornered, Desmond turned to fight.

  • Desmond: ...And I am an Assassin.
